LOVE AND REASON

Me~"Honey, you forgot to wash your hair last night. You need to go jump in the shower."

Jules~(digging out eye boogers)"MOOOOOOMMMMM! MY HAIR IS FINE LIKE THIS. I'LL JUST TAKE OUT THE BRAID AND IT WILL BE FLOWY. IT'S FINE!"

Me~"Okay, let me see it. (Medusa on crack) Nope, sorry. It's not fine. It's gross. Go shower. Hurry, quick!"

Jules~"UUUUGGGHHHHH!!!!! THAT MAKES ME SO MAD! WHY CAN'T I WEAR MY HAIR LIKE THIS! I HATE TO SHOWER IN THE MORNING!"

Me~"Dear, you KNEW you needed to shower. I'm sure you remembered last night, and still chose not to. Now get up there and shower."

Jules~(stomping up the stairs)"I DID NOT REMEMBER! I REMEMBER THAT I DIDN'T REMEMBER!"

And yes, friends. that is how we began our day. With a delightful, but more importantly, REASONABLE, conversation.

"There is Beauty all around, when there's love at home...."

Oh, I am so glad I am not the only one living with a preteen/hormone crazy 10 year old!!! Your life is my life there....but you have one less to deal with, lucky duck!!!!

BTW, that is what is said every other night at our house. "Can we NOT wash our hair tonight so it can be wavy?" "No, for the last time," says I, looking at their scalp, holding back a gag....stinky, stinky, stinky.

My Terrible Ten just sniffs her armpits and says, "Can't I just put more deodorant on and skip a shower?"

My son and I were sitting in the Vice Principal's office discussing why it's necessary for him to go to school, and how he has "contracts" with different people to ensure his sucess at school. He looked at me with a dead serious face and says, "Mom, for my birthday, can you get me a laywer?" -J

My 13 yr old has FINALLY gotten the idea! YAY!! My 11 yr old is another story still... BOO!! ;p Looking forward to him starting Jr High and not wanting to gross out girls... as long as girls still have some cooties to keep enough distance. HAH!!

I LOVE that she REMEMBERS that she DIDN'T REMEMBER!! BAHAHHA!!!

Loving the "no-one home" version of that song...

Ours is "where can I turn for peace"... the kids know I'm about to blow a gasket when I start pounding that on the piano. Especially since I SUCK at the piano.

Showers though? I can barely keep enough hot water now that the 15 and 13 year old are on the shower bandwagon...

You are the patient, loving, reasonable, princess Mommy. I'm totally impressed. Wish I'd have been. It was more like Hagitha the Witch meets the spawn of Dracula at my house. Not pretty. I am sorry I missed you at Stewarts. I only work there one day a week so not good odds to find me there. Go ahead and take the credit for the crackers. I won't tell. Totally awesome for Thanksgiving. Hahah. "I remember that I did not remember." That could have come out of any of my 5 children...except the baby. He doesn't know how to say that yet...but he thinks it. I know he does.

Oh my! This is like every conversation I have with son, only with less words. He's only three.

I was hoping it got better. HA!

I have the same convo with some of my kids - Why do they hate showering so much? I just don't get it. Don't they want to smell good? Crazy kids.

Glad I'm not alone.
