Conversation had today between Boo, darling sister and mother of sweet young things, and me, mature sister and mother of tween....
Boo~"Oh. my. gosh. You should have SEEN what 'A' and Baby Maby had on for their pictures the other day. 'A' was wearing this pair of white capris, with a blue and white striped shirt and this FANTASTIC red organza flower~big as her skull! Then she wore her red sparkly Dorothy shoes and a red bow in her hair and she was in this field of yellow flowers and the sun was shimmering and breezes blowing her golden locks around her beautiful face...and then...THEN, Baby Maby joined in with her red sparkly shoes, and she had on a floral yellow shirt with yellow pants and red and white polka dot skirt and a giant red bow in her strawberry blond curls and they were jumping into each other's arms and swirling around in the meadow and oh. my. gosh. It was just.....breathtaking!
Me~"Oh. I can just imagine! But did I tell you what Julia had on the other day?"
Boo~"No, what?"
Me~"Wellllll...just picture this. She was wearing a pilling, what-used-to-be tye dyed shirt, but had mopped up every color in the wash one day, so it's kind of hard to tell if it's like a mustardy brown smear now or what...anyway, that shirt in the size 'too small' so as to accentuate the slouch and slump posture of a recently developing 4th grade girl. And then, along with that, a pair of hot pink neon plaid shorts, sitting low on the hips, allowing plenty of room for pre-pubescent muffin top and protruding, fully unaware gut~her ratty and fly away hair tucked behind her ears, and two lone front buck teeth, praying for back up. It was just.......breathtaking."
Boo~"Oh. Yeah. I saw her. I thought maybe she'd just gotten back from swimming or something."
Me~"Yeah. No. She'd dressed up for the day."
Boo~"Sorry."
Me~"I curse you and your offspring."

IF I was an LOL girl .. I would totally write LOL ... but that just doesn't do justice. AT ALL. SO I will write OHMYFREAKINGHELLTHISISHYSTERICAL!! It's even better than our REAL conversation!!!!!!!
So - I don't get it ... she HADN'T gone swimming ... right??
:)
hopefully sis gets to have reality real soon!
Reality DOES eventually set in... and as cute as all these hair-bowed little cuties are... I count it as a successful day when they have shoes on that match EACHOTHER - matching the outfit is WAY too much to ask!!!
holyhelluva! Just her face alone is blog post enough.
AND just a comment or two for those who would like for me to have my reality ... remember ..... I am a photographer - so there is no way in &*&^%$^^&(*)* that I would photograph my children as they look right now. OHHH NO - they are not presentable for a photograph that will be seen in a book. Which is what I was working on. So you will be PROUD to know that my girls at this VERY moment have 1) no shoes on 2) fingernail polish stained on their shirts from rubbing WET polish to see if it was dry, 3) blueberry stained teeth, mouth, and eyes - how did THAT happen and 4) they're screaming at each other.
reality.
BUT - for a photograph - you will see a WHOLE other side. Which is why we ALL get photographs. To remember our "pretend" life inside our head.
Oh, how very true those words, Boo. And you're right about the holyhelluva! I know.
Kara - the problem is one day you will want to take her picture. You will plan for months what she will wear and what the photos will look like. You will have a darling outfit, bows, shoes etc. all laid out ready to go. Then BAM WWIII breaks out!! The darling girl you always loved to dress up will suddenly REFUSE to take any part of it! This is what you will hear… “Geese mom, there is NO FREEKING WAY I’m wearing that! Are you kidding?” “Really mom, I’m too old to be wearing flowers in my hair!” (eye roll) “Those look like baby shoes, no…. NO WAY!” Thus goes the hours….. No curling her hair….. “Chaaaa, are you FREEKING KIDDING ME???” No, beautiful dress, “I look like a freak!” There will be weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth! You’ll fight the good fight for a while…. Then you will go into a deep depression and mourning. For that is when you will realize that you no longer can live in a pretend world. Your darling daughter will not allow it. And then you’ll have pictures just like the rest of us. Dare I say it? … TOPE!
Ok So I have a son, and he LOOOOVES to play dress up, and he NEVERS matches. It's sad actually. He is lucky he has me to say he can't wear that. However he gets aways with murder when dad is watching him. Too funny.
I would have given a kidney to see photos of that!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ahhh, reality. So easy to live in a fantasy world when they're little, so hard when they can fight back. When my kids were young usually the day before the picture appointment one or all of them would get a black eye or other hideous abrasion on their face. Should I tell you about our oldest kid's senior pictures? He shaved his head the day before. File that under What Was He Thinking?? Mimi
You mean other people have kids that one cooperated??? WTH??? WHAT happened to MY offspring?? (Thinking it might have SOMETHING to do with their MOTHER!! BOO!) I also find it interesting that I can get adorable shots of all these people and kids... But will MY family cooperate??? GAH!!
ANYWAY!! LOVED this Lisa!! SO TRUE!!
you don't know me....but you should. we could be friends. I know and love-hate your sister kara for all the right reasons. She's a definite fave of mine (my sister Jamie Beynon is her good friend). I am in love with you because you you are the creative mouth for my thoughts.... i am raising 3 very stinky boys and my world is not sparkly, shiny, colorful or breath-taking (unless we are talking wrestling and black-eyes). So I thank you for your frankness. I adore it in fact. carry on.
